How to begin reading the Qur’an

The Qur’an is Islam’s central scripture. It is divided into chapters called surahs, which contain verses commonly called ayahs.

Arabic and translation

Muslims regard the Arabic Qur’an as the revealed text, while translations communicate meanings in other languages. A translation is therefore useful for understanding, but it is not identical to the Arabic wording.

Why context matters

Individual verses belong to larger passages, themes and historical contexts. Scroll My Faith’s Study control is designed to encourage readers to look beyond a single isolated quote.
